We source our yerba mate from Parana, Brazil, where growing mate instead of cattle or destructive monocrops helps farmers earn better wages while preserving endangered forest habitat, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration. Larger, hand-plucked leaves steep slowly and evenly for a smoother cup than the fast, tannic bitterness typical of machine-picked fannings and dust used in many tea bags. Every tea bag is made from manila hemp (Abacá) fiber, sealed with a crimp-and-knot process instead of the plastic heat-seals used in most tea bags, so no polypropylene ever touches your cup. The bags are BPI Certified Biodegradable and supplier-verified free of added plastics or microplastics — not just labeled that way.
